Selected teachers are honored throughout the academic year with a special award presentation at school, prizes for the teacher and classroom, plus an opportunity to attend a celebration at
LEGOLAND® California in Carlsbad with their entire class!
In 2001, Lincoln Financial Media stations KIFM, KSON and FM94/9 created the Teachers Are Heroes program in partnership with Azusa Pacific University. Since that time we have received thousands of nominations for teachers throughout San Diego County. Our listeners have told us heartfelt stories of teachers who are going above and beyond their jobs in creating a life-long love for learning in our children.
A panel of station and sponsor representatives read through all of the nominations and select twelve teachers each year to recognize. With the support of the San Diego County Office of Education we are able to visit the schools and make a presentation at an all-school assembly. The essay nomination is read aloud in front of the student body, faculty and visiting parents.
Our recipients receive many great gifts, including but not limited to, a special trophy, gift certificates for school supplies and a classroom party by Wendy's. At the end of the year, all of our selected teachers and their classes will be honored at a private celebration at LEGOLAND® California in Carlsbad!
