Your hometown?
Palmdale California, just a few hours north of here. My family has been there since the late 20's and most of them still are. It may be where I'm from, but San Diego is home.
What do you do in your spare time to relax?
Obviously I listen to Smooth to relax, that's a silly question... In a rare moment of free time I like to paint, write, and pretend I'm a photographer. I also have a second career as an engineer for a local TV station. I've worked on a few documentary films, voice overs for animations, and whatever else seems fun. I guess the short answer is I work in my free time.
Favorite food?
Hard to say since I made the big lifestyle change... If you asked me last year I would've said anything Mexican, these days I would say anything healthy. Friends, if you are trying to lose a few pounds and you need some support, shoot me a note. I was 330 pounds in December, as of today I am down 95 lbs. No surgery, no fads, just diet, exercise, and will power.
Childhood nickname?
Eeyore... And please don't call me that. And on a side note to young folks, I was bullied; I was the nerd, the last picked for the game. I know it's tough, but it does get better.
Most people don't know that I...?
I once got three speeding tickets on the same day, from the same cop. Really. Another one that trips people out is I was once a professional bird trainer.
First concert ever attended?
Well, it wasn't what you might expect... George Strait and Highway 101 at Universal Amphitheater back in 1985 or 86. I was born in 1981 so I don't remember much of it. I think the first show I bought a ticket for with my own money was Jurassic 5.
Person with the most influence on your life?
There are a few... my wife Rachel is my biggest supporter, she makes me a better person in every possible way, my mother and grandmother, I would also say Brooks O'Brien, she saw a DJ trapped in a construction worker, thanks for saving me! And I can't forget about Mike, Shelly, J., Lenny, and all the rest here at Smooth, thanks for the faith and guidance.
Most proud of?
That I’m back home in Southern California doing what I love with the woman I love. If anyone would've told me five years that I would be doing radio at the beach I would have laughed, not one second goes by that I am not thankful for all the blessings.
Favorite concert ever attended?
There are so many... If I have to narrow it down to one it would be Fleetwood Mac at MGM Grand in 09. I was sorta kinda named after a song of theirs.
Favorite guilty pleasure?
That changes all the time... As of right now I would say 80's obscure 80's music like Klaus Nomi, Kate Bush, XTC, Til Tuesday, etc. I could go on for days. Oh, and the occasional cupcake but only if I am having a really tough day.
Favorite sport to watch?
Up until I moved to the beach I would have said baseball but now I am inclined to go with women's volleyball.
Place I have never been but would most like to visit?
It shames me to admit it but I have never left North America. My wife and I are planning a trip to the Mediterranean for her 30th birthday; problem is that's in October of 2012. Australia is high on the list as well... Any place with history.
Anything you’d like to add?
Just this, nothing is impossible. 11 years ago I was on the streets, no hope, no place to sleep, no nothing. If I can go from that, to being the guy inside your radio, you can do anything you set your mind too, anything. Never let anyone or anything stop you from being your best.
